Because it uses no solvents, the input material has to be exceptional to produce a good yield, and yields are lower than solvent extraction. Live rosin starts from fresh-frozen plant material washed into ice-water hash, which is then pressed. Standard rosin is pressed from dried, cured flower or dry-sift. Live rosin keeps far more of the original terpene profile and usually costs more; cured rosin is still solventless and clean but tastes more like the dried flower it came from than the living plant.

Rosin is terpene-rich and heat-sensitive, so go low. A banger in the 480°F to 540°F range preserves flavor and avoids scorching. Use a carb cap and a slow draw so the extract vaporizes evenly rather than pooling and burning.
